EXPLORING TEACHER'S BELIEFS
Nowadays, learning languages is promoted to be a necessity and no a luxury. varied benefits and advantages are spreaded as an open door to success. When it comes to the English language, one of the most common reasons to learn it, is its raising relevance on economical, cultural, and political fields. English seen as a lingua franca has become in the main instrument when referring to communitive purposes. Many people beging studying English and some of them successfully achieve the process, but some others fail beacuse they are not motivated enough and find the language difficult to learn. I consider that learning English as any other language demands a lot of time practice, motivation, discipline and hard work to accomplish the development of the different linguistic skills.
Currently, English is not considered as a unique dialect belonging to a specific region or country anymore. As the English language is being learnt in many different countries world wide, it is adapted and appropriated as an element that is shaped based on the culture of that country. Bearing this in mind, I think for leaning another language is not necessary to reach a native- like pronunciation as long as you can be able to communicate appropriatly.
Using English in any of the ways we can do it, requires to have some attitudes that favour the process of performing the language in a good way. I belive those attitudes are related with; motivation,willingness, commitment, persistence and discipline. Nevertheless, most of my primary learners think that English is difficult, and they express their frustration generally when they listen to the English teacher speaking. Otherwise, even they feel somehow apathy for learning the language, they like it in the sense it is an opportunity for them to listen to music, chanting, playing and doing different activities in relation with the other subjects.
In relation with the previous primary stiudents' beliefs, I consider English is not that difficult to learn but like any other language it requires time and consistency to accomplished it. There is not doubt that languages vary in some linguistic spects such as grammar and pronuncition, Nontheless, as English has been established as the language of comunication world wide, basically because the country where it is spoken is the biggest economical and political global power, seems to be easy to learn.
BELIEFS ABOUT LEARNING
Learning is an enriching process in which the learner navigates to get
knowledge and grow personally. Depending on the conditions and the facilities
given, knowledge will be acquire properly. In this sense, as English teacher I believe there are distinct and effective ways of learning a language; whilts Technology supports the development of the different language skills, other practical and meaningful activities can be carried out. Being exposed to the target language as much as possible to generate the necessity of understanding and using it as a mean for communication in which the learner not only can use it but to be an active agent of change in society.
As educators we must take into account the way in which students learn better, for this reason it is necessary to address a dignostic test at the very beggining of the academic year, to identify the different preferences learners have in relation with their learning styles. In doing so, teachers will take actions on how, what and why to teach.
In my teaching practice, even though I consider I miss some strategies I try to promote distinct activities through which they can learn English; videos, music,drawings, games, working in pairs, and working individually. With the activities I propose for my class, I expect my students be motivated and participative, so they will enjoy and have fun while learning. In teaching, I hope my students develop different skills among them autonomy, so they will improve in their learning on their own.
BELIEFS ABOUT TEACHING
In my classes I try to be a dynamic teacher who cares about the students' emotions, I carry out different activities through which they can learn the foreign language. I like to play music and students enjoy it, games and activities that entertain learners are the ones chosen for my classes. I recognize I have to tackle different challenges as English teacher since most of the students dislike the subject. I consider myself to be an eclectic teacher who implement distinct strategies to facilitate students learning. In terms of classroom management I belief that engaging activities can highly prevent disruptive students in the classroom, I try to be firm and cosistent with the rules established for the English class. In this sense, a good teacher is someone who understand the learners´needs and wants to deliberately reflect and improve teaching practices.
Teaching a language is not that easy, motivating individuals that generally are not interested in learning another language as they think is not important in our context, is a challenging task. The English teacher must be creative and resourceful to find better ways to teach.
Improvements in education are required as quality is one of the principles to teach for teachers. Better conditions in tems of technological resources and facilities that allow students to learn properly. Teachers should be given opportunities to update their knowledge and participate frequently in meetings with foreign teachers to help you improve your teaching skills.
Teaching a foreign language is a chance to give learners a good option for their lives. Students will see the world more critically and from different perspectives.
Instead of evaluating language teachers, they should be given distinct and frequent opportunities to grow professionally, so teachers will perform better in class.
