METAPHOR DRAWING
Being a teacher means that you are someone who possess variety
of skills and values that are supposed to be reflected on their teaching
practice. As English
teacher I consider myself to be a manager who has different identities through
which I try to take control over the different situations that happen in the
classroom. One of the identities that Farrell recognize in teaching is the
teacher as entertainer, he describes this kind of teacher as someone who cares
about learners’ emotions and feelings. Since I work with primary students, I identify
with this identity as I try to have my students comfortable and learning while
enjoying the activities proposed for the class. In relation with this, I believe
I motivate my students to learn English as something that will help them to find
better opportunities for their lives in their future.
In the
drawing I did, I tried to portray my teaching style as one in which students
will have fun and enjoy while learning throughout different interesting
activities. I present the opportunity to learn as the best experience they can
have in their lives. I will be the person who guide them in their educational
process, but there will be them who choose how far they want to go. Some of
them might be insecure or uncertain about learning, however, once they lose
their fears, they will understand that learning experiences requires to take
risks and try many times as to improve and acquire diversity knowledge.
Working with very young children is a chance to help them get prepared for life, our role as English teachers is to motivate them and guide their learning process as much as we can, providing in our teaching practice appropriate activities that engage students in acquiring not only the foreign language but knowledge about other matters.
Finally I think teaching roles varies constantly as lessons are different, nontheless, English teachers should construct and then maintain their identity as an aspect that inspire learners to follow. Educating learners how to learn and becoming in agents of change in their community are significant aspects to be accomplished in education.
